In novel The Hunger Games, the main character is the teenager Katniss Everdeen from District 12. Katniss is a proficient hunter and survivalist. She is the one that provides food by hunting for her family since her father is dead. Every year the government of Capital organizes an event at which mingling with the twelve districts. During this event, the organizers of the event choose two tributes, a boy and a girl from each district to be part of the hunger games in which they fight to the death.

This year unfortunately, Katniss little sister Prim was selected as a tribute of district twelve. However, katniss did not accept her little sister going to the hunger games, so she volunteers to take Prim’s place. Also Peeta Mellark was chosen as the second tribute to participate for districts twelve. Katniss and Peeta were taken to the capitol to be trained for the game. At the capital they meet Haymitch and Effie, their trainers and Cinna and Portia, stylists. Cinna and Portia get Katniss and Peeta ready for the opening ceremony, dress them in flames. After the ceremony Katniss and Peeta are taken back to the building where they are going to be trained. On their third day at the capitol, the game makers called the tributes out of lunch to have a private session with them. When Katniss’ turn arrives, she goes in to her private session, and starts performing her skills, but the game makers ignore her. Eventually, she gets mad and shoots an arrow at them to get their attention. After this, she decides just to leave without saying anything, worrying about what she had done, thinking that the game makers would be mad at her or punish her family. Later, she finds out that she got the highest score of all the tributes, getting eleven out twelve.

When the actual game begins, the twenty-four tributes are taken to the arena to fight for their survival. At the beginning, Katniss is on her own. Later on she finds out that Peeta has teamed up with the Career tributes, who has found her and trapped her in the tree while she was sleeping. At night while the Career tributes are asleep, Katniss plans how to escape from them. Then suddenly Rue appears from the neighbor tree branch. Rue points up above Katniss head. She looks up and sees the tracker jackers, the dangerous and deadly creature’s nest. This gives Katniss the idea; so she planned to drop the nest on the Career tributes. After this Katniss teams up with Rue, the tiny girl from district twelve, and they help each other. Unfortunately, Katniss and Rue were not together for long because Rue was killed by one of the Career tributes. After Rue’s death, the rules of the game change. The announcer wants to bring Peeta and Katniss to team up again in order to keep their love story. The announcer also says that two people from the same district can now win.

Katniss goes to hunt and founds Peeta badly injured, so she takes care of him until he heals. Now they have to fight against Cato, the last surviving tribute name Cato. At the end of the game, Katniss shoots Cato and wins. However, the announcer changes the rules again; he says there will be only one winner. Katniss and Peeta can’t kill each other, so they decided to commit a double suicide. Fortunately, the announcer admits that they won the Hunger games.

  1. Man, this an amazing novel. I like how in many ways it represents how communism works and how it is not fair when a government have total control over the people. I also enjoy how the act of bravery and sacrifice of the older sister Katniss. I say this because if this was the case today I would do the exact in order to fight and protect my family. :)
